Hollywood actress Maggie Q was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. As a struggling student she took off for Japan with the hopes of making enough money modelling to go back to school. Though she did meet with some modelling successes, the trip was not at all what she expected. Because eight year later she had somehow become an action film star in Asia. After bursting onto the Hong Kong film scene with a little help from Jackie Chan, who trained her in the martial arts and put her in Rush Hour 2, she became a highly-sought after action femme.
Back in the US, Maggie Q continued to reign supreme in the action genre, with film credits like Mission Impossible III, Live Free and Die Hard, and the Divergent trilogy (Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant). She was also cast as the titular character in CW’s action-thriller Nikita.
Today, you’ll find her as Hannah Wells, a fearless FBI agent searching to uncover who murdered the US congress on ABC’s Designated Survivor.
But Maggie Q is also Actively Involved in the Health Industry.
Maggie Q is incredibly proud of her physical skills, and is a staunch believer that actors should train hard to be believable martial arts experts – she actually organized the training for herself and the rest of the Nikita cast when there wasn’t money available – but she is also a passionate health advocate.
In fact, she is the co-founder of ActivatedYou, a health platform that provides information, support and top-of-the-line dietary supplements for those trying to get their bodies back on the road to optimal health.
So, Why the Health industry?
Though it may be hard to conceive, even Hollywood stars suffer from the same everyday health grievances of the masses. For Maggie Q that was 12 years of an undiagnosed condition that left her suffering with fatigue, a bloated belly, puffy eyes and a downward turn in self-confidence. Especially as she was constantly cast as a super athletic, tight-clothing adorned, heroine. Maggie Q elaborates,
“It made me feel so unattractive. Irritable bowels caused me to bloat and I felt tired all the time. I would have puffy eyes – even when I would get enough sleep – which made me look like crap and hurt my confidence even further. Little did I know, it was all related to digestion.”
After years of no answers, and burying herself into her own research, Maggie finally made some discoveries that opened her eyes to her health and which made her want to share her findings so that she could help others.
An Integrative Discovery
During her research, Maggie Q discovered Dr. Edison de Mello at his Akasha Center for Integrative Medicine in Santa Monica CA. Not only was he able to successfully treat her digestive issues but they instantly hit it off as friends and determined that they would create a system together that could help other people. But far more than just creating a product, they wanted to create an educational community. Because they both share the philosophy that optimal health is a combination of the mind, body and spirit.
And So, ActivatedYou was Born
ActivatedYou is both an Advanced Restorative Probiotic and an online resource for information and support.
The Advanced Restorative Probiotic is one of the most potent probiotic formulas on the market and starts by colonizing the digestive tract with billions of healthy bacteria. Good gut bacteria improves digestive health and comfort and helps your body perform at its peak. It also has the ability to improve mood, energy levels, immune function, and even fight other diseases. In fact scientists today believe that good gut flora can also help to prevent the flu, allergies, cancer and even behavioral issues.
Maggie says that the results speak for themselves, and that you need only feel the results for the first time in order to believe them.
“… Your senses are more powerful, you’re more alert, you’re more centered, and on point…Your serotonin levels have soared, and you just feel like everything is, is right. Then you realize that’s the way you were supposed to feel all along.”
The Truth is Out There
Ask any of Maggie Q’s close friends and they’ll tell you that she knows more about how to look and feel your best than most nutritionists. Because her own health struggles led her to undertake such extensive nutritional research in order to find the truth. Friends have even been known to call her in the middle of the night for advice on their distressing ailments.
But Maggie Q understands what it’s like to be in great discomfort and to be given no answers, or solutions, from the experts. To feel so desperately helpless.
And, though she can’t give us the secret to those very photogenic abs, she does want to share her experience, and her solutions, to as many people as possible
